Can particles that settle in the vial of the TU5 turbidimeters impact the turbidity measurement?
Zusammenfassung
TU5300 and TU5400 detection of sand, grit, and other settled particles can be done by using System Check
Antwort
Heavy particles that settle in the sample vial of the process TU5 units can impact the instrument accuracy. If sand, grit, or other particles in a process present a settling concern, the instrument must be ordered with the System Check option. System Check is a physical system that will periodically check the sample vial health. The check will detect settled solids along with condensation or other sample vial health concerns that could impact the sensor accuracy and alert operators with a warning condition.

The orientation of the inlet and outlet of the process TU5 help to create a vortex inside the sample cell. The vortex acts as a small tornado that helps to “flush” particles that are <50µm in size and keeps them from getting stuck at the bottom of the sample cell.

Particles that are >50µm may settle down to the bottom of the sample vial and may require an additional cleaning cycle. However, the cleaning is relatively easy, and these settled particles may be an early indicator of a filter breakthrough problem.
