The Total Hardness Test Strips, 0-425 mg/L, 250 tests, Individually Wrapped (Product # 2793844) consist of a thin chemically impregnated paper matrix that is adhered to a polystyrene handle for ease of use when dipping. The strip is impregnated with chemicals to react to indicate the level of hardness. The primary chemicals in this reaction are calmagite and EDTA. In addition, chemicals are added to minimize reaction time required, for long-term stability, and to maximize color distinction between levels. When the chemically impregnated pad is completely saturated, a displacement reaction occurs that indicates the level of calcium and magnesium, along with other trace hardness components.

Any anion (for example: magnesium, iron, copper) which will bind the EDTA, may interfere with the AquaCheck test. Very strong acids and bases may also interfere.
