How are sample ID's imported into a DR3900 or DR6000?
Importing sample ID's into the DR3900 and DR6000
In order to import external Sample IDs into the DR3900 or DR6000, create an external sample ID list with a spreadsheet program. Four columns are permitted and their descriptions are given below. In general, spaces are allowed when using the headers, though headings and comment lines must begin with the # symbol. Anything after the # sign but before the next comma that is not SQL language will be input.
  • Column 1 contains the sequential number. It must be sequential and start with 1. This data will not be shown on the instrument, but is just for validation of the sequence.
  • Column 2 is for sample designation. It is the ID that you want it to be labeled in the system. Duplicates of sample IDs will be deleted when imported (i.e. multiple samples named QC or similar)
  • Column 3 (optional) is the date which can either be dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy format. If the files were edited in Excel, one may receive errors depending on how it is formatted. If you get a date/time format error when importing sample IDs, Excel has changed something and you must make the edits in wordpad or a text editor to fix it.
  • Column 4 (optional) is a notes section for a LIMS system and that will not display on the instrument.

An example of a SampleID spreadsheet is attached to this article.

Create a folder named "SampleID" on a USB stick or in your established network.

Save the sample ID list in CSV or UNICODE-TXT format in the folder "SampleID". If the sample ID list is not saved in the "Sample ID" folder, a "No valid data found" message may appear. Similar messages can also appear if the USB drive is too large or is incompatible.

Connect the DR6000 or DR3900 to the USB stick or network. All *.TXT and *.CSV files in the SampleID folder are shown for selection.

Transfer the shown sample ID list with “Done”.

Select the required file with “OK”.
