First thoroughly clean the electrode (preferably with an Acid Electrode Cleaning Solution, such as Catalog Number 2975126 or Catalog Number 2975149) and then submerge the electrode in Reducing Conditioning Solution (catalog number 2965349) for 30 minutes prior to taking measurements.

The reluctance of the ORP reading to decrease is created by an oxidation on the platinum electrode. Since platinum is not completely inert, the platinum surface will form a layer of Platinum Oxide (PtO). Such slow response times are a result of the thickness of the PtO layer on the surface which can be decreased by pre-conditioning with the reductant solution. When the reducing solution reacts with the PtO layer, the surface is ready for sample measurement. It is suggested that air exposure will re-create this PtO layer on the platinum surface of the electrode, so minimize air exposure after reductant conditioning is performed.
