Lachat Method: Ammonia 10-107-06-1-X
Samples are pre-distilled using the Lachat MICRODIST apparatus. Ammonia is then determined on the distillate. This method is based on the Berthelot reaction where ammonia reacts with alkaline phenol and sodium hypochlorite to form indophenol blue. Sodium nitroprusside (nitroferricyanide) is added to enhance sensitivity. The absorbance of the reaction product measured at 630 nm is directly proportional to the original ammonia concentration.
